As part of Open Studios 2010 Arthaus is displaying ‘Oyez’. A selection of prints and works on paper and other media by artists Jovan Djordjevic and Ted Atkinson.
The works on show will include pictures and giclee prints, together with a new series of 'faux postage' pieces by Jovan. Using a vintage Rosback perforating machine, Jovan Djordjevic assembles and recombines found imagery to explore the ‘tongue-in-cheek’ iconography of the ‘news stand’ and tear-off postage stamp format. All works reinforce the artist's long-standing interest in montage, repetition and a delight in exploring the byways of 19th century printing processes.
Ted Atkinson came to printmaking via sculpture and although now fully engaged in this area, the work still tends to be about the manipulation of forms in space. For many years he was very involved in the processes of etching and aquatint but has now completely succumbed to the delights and frustrations of the computer.
Before moving to Wivenhoe and setting up 'Arthaus' Jovan Djordjevic lived and worked for many years in East London. His extensive body of published work includes award-winning illustrations for national and international publications, book covers and special art commissions. Jovan’s illustration work frequently incorporates found imagery, exhibiting a playful but often disquieting sense of irony.
Ted Atkinson a prominent artist, operating from Wivenhoe for a number of years however, may be viewed as past tutor and inadvertent contributor fermenting Jovan’s mischevious intrigues! Ted will be displaying a selection of recently produced, digital artworks as well as past etched pieces: all of which are available as limited edition prints.
‘Oyez’ will be showing at ARTHAUS as part of ‘Open Studios 2010’ Colchester, during 18 / 19 and 25 / 26 September 2010 at –
